Google announcing new operating system

Google has launched an attack on Microsoft's dominance of PC's by announcing a new operating system.

The new Google Chrome OS will be available on netbooks and laptops from the 2nd half of 2010. The web's search engine giant Google mentioned it will be "virus-free" and allow quick access to the internet. If that's so, then they have their work cut out.

"The operating systems that browsers run on were designed in an era where there was no web" vice president of product management, Sundar Pichai said.

"This is our attempt to re-think what operating systems should be."

The OS will be based around the Chrome browser. "The web is the platform," Mr Pichai said.

Microsoft said 96% of netbooks use it's OS, a figure Google intends to demolish.

Although other commentators suggest it may take several years for Google to change the habits of consumers. So this is really just the start of a very long road to maybe a victory or loss. We shall soon see.
