This information was released recently at the Computex conference in Taiwan, that Windows 7 will launch on 22nd of October this year.
This October release date is a quick turnaround for Windows as they had claimed that Windows 7 would arrive within 3 years of Windows Vista, putting it on course for an early 2010 release date.
Windows 7 will be available in 5 different version: Starter which is aimed at netbooks, Home Premium, Professional, Enterprise and Ultimate. Pricing has yet to be confirmed, although rumours suggest Microsoft will offer free Windows 7 upgrades to people who buy vista-loaded machines a month before launch.
Anybody who is interested in giving Windows 7 a go can try the free Release Candidate which won't expire until 1st June 2010.
