So many of you will obviously know about Google Street View but very recently they have brought everyone's attention to the fact they cover pretty much everywhere in the UK now. From the very bottom of Penzance, England, to the very tip of John O' Groats in Scotland, Google has now got it covered. Google Street View was only available in 25 cities in the UK and has now been expanded to include more than 238,000 miles of road.
“With so many practical applications it's no wonder that over two thirds of people who had tried the service said they would use Street View again”, said Ed Parsons who is Google's Geospatial Technologist. He highlighted the fact that many people use the Street View service for house-hunting and planning trips.
Street View has had it's fair share of negativity though, questions of privacy with regards to burglars reportedly planning robberies.
One area in particular that is unlikely to be included in the national Street View is Broughton in Buckinghamshire. Residents actually ‘chased’ the Google Street View car out of the village when it came along to photograph it. Personally I would be more concerned with the fact that, let's say from a burglar's point of view, you can see if a house hasn't got an alarm from the outside and etc.
I think it would be a brilliant idea if people could have the right to their privacy and contact Google about this, maybe creating a blur over the house in question. Maybe this is something that could be an option for everyone in the near future.
