Facebook creating webmail service?

Bookmark and Share

Facebook is reportedly working on its own webmail service to rival the likes of Gmail and Hotmail.

To Facebook it's called Project Titan and would see users rid of the messaging service that's currently in play. It will be replaced by a fully featured webmail service instead.

Hints have been made to expand messaging, such as the ability to add regular email address into Facebook messages and the ability to search your inbox.

If these reports are true, it seems Facebook is preparing to go a lot further and take on full POP/IMAP support, meaning you'll be able to access your account on your phone or through a service like Microsoft Outlook Express or Entourage.

As for the email address's, it would be your username@facebook.com, with your user name being the one you chose when Facebook introduced them back in June last year.

There has been no mention of a timescale for this project but if it turns out to be true, a full-featured webmail product would be a good additional feature to Facebook.

Facebook really are dominating the web lately. They have been making updates to different areas of the Facebook website so it seems like they are busy at work.
