Facebook has partnered with McAfee to offer six months of free security to the site's 350 million users.
Once the six month trial period has expired, users will then be offered a discounted version of the security package, which could benefit McAfee's subscriptions department. However, Facebook claims that it will not benefit financially from the deal.
"Facebook is applying all financial incentives from this partnership to the benefit of its users and will not be taking a share of any revenue from user subscriptions," McAfee said on it's blog.
Another feature to this security package is that the Facebook site has launched a McAfee designed tool to scan and clean the computer of users whose accounts contain malware. This tool will require users to clean their computer up, before it allows them to log back into their account.
Facebook and other social networking sites such as Twitter and MySpace are among the most popular targets for hackers and cybercriminals. They look out for a false sense of security among their users, who believe that social networking is without it's flaws and immune from attack. If someone gets in contact with you, who you don't know, don't automatically think you probably know them as you could possibly be the next victim of a hacker or a cybercriminal, just be careful.
