Dell & HP customers rage at Windows 7 upgrade delays

Bookmark and Share

Dell and Hewlett-Packard customers are very angry that they have not yet received the Windows 7 upgrades they were promised when they purchased new PC's earlier this year, according to messages on Dell and HP support forums.

In 2007, Windows Vista upgrades were delayed by weeks and this Deja Vu is not looking good for both of the companies. Last summer Microsoft announced their 'Windows 7 Upgrade Option Program' which would deliver free or discounted Windows 7 upgrades to people who bought new Vista PC's between June 26th 2009 and January 31st 2010.

A long list of negative feedback are in these support forums. "I honestly think that this whole windows 7 "FREE!!!" upgrade is total BS," said a user identified as "mdr322" in a message posted to a thread on the forum. "It took me 1 month to register my service tag and now my delivery date has been delayed by 2 Weeks!!!!!." "Dell is behaving very unprofessionally! I am sure this will cost them customers." said someone called "Vlad G" on the same thread.

Users on the HP support site were also very frustrated by these shocking delays.

"Inept does not do justice to this royal screw-up," said by a user called "littlewhizkid" last week on an HP thread. "Total incompetence is closer, but without using language that would lead my message to being deleted I do not think I could adequately describe how poorly managed this process has been. HP has certainly lost any shred of loyalty I may have had."

A representative from Dell said "These are estimated ship dates," said "Jesse L," who was a Dell employee in the forum. "The reason they keep changing is because of issues with the shippers' inventory. They got behind and are working to catch up."

Some other users were actually taking the companies side by saying "Did everyone forget that the copy is free, not including possible charges to shipping and taxes?" which was stated by "ravenneangelle". The user also went on to say "And how high in demand this product is? I'm sure Dell is doing their best in getting it all out to us in time."

This does show a mixed view on the delays but I'm sure Dell and HP are doing as much as they can to get these upgrades out to customers. Business do not want negativity pointed at their company so I'm sure they aren't just doing this on purpose. But the fact is they should have learnt from their mistakes the last time round with their Vista upgrades.

Here at ESP News, we are actually still waiting for our Windows 7 upgrade. We are adding up the days waiting for our upgrade and so far it's been roughly a month but we have been told our shipping date is on the 4th December so that's a good couple of weeks yet. If you think about it, this upgrade is actually free so at least your saving yourself some money, just hang in there!
