Microsoft admits Windows 7 tried to mimic Mac

Right in the beginning, Microsoft have been accused of copying the look, feel and functionality of Apple's operating systems.

Microsoft created a trash can which was first featured in Windows 95, but only 10 years after Apple introduced its own trash can.

Microsoft have now admitted that after more than a year of Apple's "I'm a PC" ads, that it drew inspiration for Windows 7 from Apple. It seems like Windows have now tried to fight back with their recent adverts, for example "I'm a PC and i'm 5 years old" and "I'm a PC and Windows 7 was my idea".

Simon Aldous who is Microsoft's partner group manager said "One of the things that people say an awful lot about the Apple Mac is that the OS is fantastic, that it's very graphical and easy to use. What we've tried to do with Windows 7 - whether it's traditional format or in a touch format - is create a Mac look and feel in terms of graphics."

"We've significantly improved the graphical user interface, but it's built on that very stable core Vista technology, which is far more stable than the current Mac platform, for instance."

Simon Aldous describes Windows 7 as "the next version" of Windows Vista, which apparently copied Mac OS X with its use of Gadgets, Widgets, and photo storage and editing software similiar to Apple's iPhoto.
